Stand for change

student debt crisis

student loan forgiveness

Predatory loan practices and a push to encourage students to take out massive debt to pursue higher education has created an economic weight that is hindering growth by saddling students with debt and interest.

I will introduce legislation to forgive federal student debt over 30 years old; and student debt over 5 years old and under $15,000 in remaining principle. These debts are likely to have already paid their principle if not for interest; and forgiving these debts would add billions back into the economy through renewed ability to spend as a consumer.

student interest forgiveness

Predatory loan practices and a push to encourage students to take out massive debt to pursue higher education has created an economic weight that is hindering growth by saddling students with debt and interest.

I will introduce legislation that will forgive all federal student debt interest and commute all loans to 0% interest. In this manner borrowers are still expected to pay their fair share and pay back the investment made in their future. However, this provides an avenue to economic mobility and helps borrowers get out of debt sooner and get back to engaging in the consumption economy.

student loan reform

Students should not be tricked into long-term debt and should be able to easily understand the cost of education. It is in the interest of the country to have an educated society and one where our kids can grow and become productive members of the economy.

I will introduce legislation requiring the Department of Education to format and publish a table on which annual loan quantity is based on combined parental income and student GPA with no additional factors, and no interest.

student service grant act

Volunteer run groups have seen a decrease in volunteer participation and with little economic incentive to volunteer many can’t afford to commit time to such efforts.

I will introduce legislation that encourages students to volunteer in their community for access to a grant that is managed by AmeriCorps with federal funding. States may supplement the program further with additional investments.
